Have you got space in your heart for a new friend? Become a volunteer befriender today and support someone who is socially isolated. Befriending can help you meet new people, try new activities, and build your confidence!

How does telephone befriending support people?

The telephone befriending service allows volunteers to be in contact with members of the community who may be elderly, have long term health conditions, and feeling lonely. These calls are regular and allow the person to have a chat and social interaction with the volunteer. there is no specific structure to the conversation but allows the volunteer to signpost to any other services that they feel may be of benefit.

Do I need to have experience to volunteer?

Previous experience is not necessary as training will be provided. Just ask yourself:

  • Am I a good listener and able to chat easily?
  • Could I give a couple of hours each week to volunteering?
