Aberford Community Centre

Energy advice for the cost of living crisis

A staggering 9 in 10 adults have reported an increase in their cost of living with nearly a quarter finding it difficult to pay their usual household bills.

Many people don't know about the support, grants, and funds that are available, but we've pulled together a comprehensive list of options for you on our Cost of Living Support webpage. Visit the webpage to read all about:

    You can take action now!

    Citizens Advice suggest five winter warmer tips to help save you money on your energy bills:

    1. Turn down your thermostat by 1 degree and save around £105 a year on energy bills.
    2. Switch off your heating when leaving the house for a few hours.
    3. Fit draught-proofing strips to your windows and doors to save around £45 a year.
    4. Get a hot water cylinder jacket and save roughly £50 a year on energy bills.
    5. Keep furniture away from radiators and heaters to feel warmer at home.

    Volunteer as an Energy Agent

    Energy Agent volunteers are needed to support the Welcome Space Network project of 30 hubs offering a range of services including energy support across Hertfordshire.

    This role is suitable for volunteers who enjoy working with people, are keep about helping others, and have an interest in energy saving. Volunteers will become confident in dealing with a wide range of people. Training on energy, conservation, carbon monoxide awareness and safeguarding will be provided.


    Responsibilities

    • Supporting staff members on-site to deliver the very best service to clients.
    • Being a friendly face and engaging in conversation those who attend welcome spaces.
    • Providing practical advice on energy savings, safety and efficient home management.


    Time Committment

    From just one hour to a full session, volunteers are invited to join us at the space for as long as they can.
